We are seeking to be…
a diverse community
worshipping God
becoming more like Jesus
and full of the power of the Spirit
where we preach grace
love our neighbor
heal the sick
seek justice
and try not to be boring or judgmental or uptight.
We believe…
In one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages; God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.
For all people and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. We confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and we look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
(Nicene Creed ~325 A.D)
We’re of the opinion that…
Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship, so we are vehemently irreligious. We do all we can to avoid religious attitudes, language, and behavior, and all the ways they make people feel excluded.
Worship should be intimate and dynamic, not a performance or show. It isn't just singing songs, it is rooted in the freedom to give God praise and to enter into his presence.
To a culture turned off and often disaffected by the church, an intelligent, sympathetic communication of the gospel is needed. We aim to avoid leaving people feeling played, bored, patronised, dumbed-down, guilt-tripped, or misunderstood.
The Kingdom of God is a highly political place. But it is not left or right, red or blue. It’s far bigger and better than that.
Our calling is to serve this city, and love it with Jesus’ love. Church is not just for Sunday.
There’s always more for all of us. Fullness of life comes from continually being transformed to be more like Jesus in every aspect of our lives.
Praying for people in the power of the Spirit is vital - not manipulated, not manipulative, neither hyped up nor downplayed, always and often.
There’s more here on inclusion and anti-racism.
We started life as a church when…
Ed and Hannah Flint and their three daughters moved from London, UK in September 2016. They planted bread in April 2017 from St Mary's London, where they both came to faith, met, got married, and Ed worked as associate vicar* for nearly a decade.
*a vicar is like a pastor, but with a higher propensity to wear a cassock.
St Mary's has a history of planting churches. The first was in Auckland, New Zealand in 2005. Plants in Exeter and London, and in Charlotte, NC and Jacksonville, FL followed. These have all ceome about through long-standing relationships with people on the ground in those cities. The same is true of bread.
To get more of an idea of what bread is like, the best thing is to come along on a Sunday. If you’re not comfortable with in-person stuff you can see them streamed online here.
